Overview

Coastal Safari's inshore trips take place on the Hells Bay Whipray Pro. This skiff excels in exploring eastern North Carolina's marshes and coastal creeks through it's ability to go where other boats simply cannot go. This boat floats skinny and allows me to pole you stealthily in search of fish. It's tough to beat sight fishing redfish in inches of water or throwing topwater plugs against grass edges and watching fish explode on them.

Rates

Inshore Trips are catered to 1 to 2 adult anglers. Additional kid's are welcome and encouraged!

  • Half Day: 450$

  • Full Day 700$

Rail Hunting

Targeting all four species of rails.

Overview

Hunting rails, or "marsh hens" as the locals call them is a uniquely southern experience. These timid birds reside in the the spartina grass and are hunted during periods of flood tides. Flood tides are periods of higher than normal tides that occur during full & new moon phases. These tides flood the spartina flats where the rails live and allow them to be reached by through poling a boat. Rails hold tight to cover and generally flush much like a quail or pheasant would. With liberal limits of 15 birds per person this can lead to exciting hunts, perfect for first timers and/or kids. Hunts can also be paired with flood tide fishing.

Destinations & Availability

North Carolina's rail season runs from September 2nd through November 21st, 2024. Please call me to discuss availability as we want to hunt the largest tides possible.

Places we hunt: Wrightsville Beach, Figure Eight Island, Hampstead, Topsail, Carolina Beach, Bald Head Island, Southport and more!

Overview

During periods of flood tides, redfish move from their usual haunts within the creeks and flats to push into flooded spartina grass flats that are usually dry. These spartina grass flats are loaded with fiddler crabs and other protein rich food sources causing redfish to feed voraciously, often with their tails or backs sticking out of the water. This type of fishing is more like spot and stalk hunting than it is fishing as it is extremely visual. Flood tide fishing can be paired with rail hunting if in season
