Overview

Coastal Safari's inshore trips take place on the Hells Bay Whipray Pro. This skiff excels in exploring eastern North Carolina's marshes and coastal creeks through it's ability to go where other boats simply cannot go. This boat floats skinny and allows me to pole you stealthily in search of fish. It's tough to beat sight fishing redfish in inches of water or throwing topwater plugs against grass edges and watching fish explode on them.

Rates

Inshore Trips are catered to 1 to 2 adult anglers. Additional kid's are welcome and encouraged!

Shad Fishing

Targeting American & Hickory Shad

Overview

For Eastern North Carolina anglers the arrival of spring means one thing: the annual migration of american and hickory shad. The first wave of migrating shad from the ocean generally begins in late February and lasts into April. We fish the four major shad rivers of NC depending on which is fishing best at the moment or are the closest to you. Shad are a great target for youth and fly anglers alike as it is not uncommon to have 50+ fish days.

Destinations & Availability

North Carolina's shad runs typically occurs from mid-February to early April.

Rivers we fish: The Tar, Roanoke, Neuse & Cape Fear River

Overview

As the shad run begins to taper off, our focus shifts to striped bass, or as local down east North Carolinians refer to them, rockfish. From mid-April through May we spend our time on the famed Roanoke River in Weldon North Carolina. During this time the stripers are actively spawning and it is not uncommon to have 50+ fish days. This is a great fishery for kids and fly anglers alike.

During the winter stripers form big schools, sometimes numbering in the hundreds, on the Tar and Roanoke river. This is a great winter time fishery with practically no competition. Most days we have the fish completely to ourselves.
